MUSIKGARTEN Teacher Trainer - Jenny Ong
Jenny
Ong is the founder director of
Musikgarten Malaysia which has been running early childhood music and
movement program in Malaysia for the past 20 years. She has over 25 years of
teaching experience at various Teachers’ Training College of the Ministry of
Education, Malaysia. She went on a British Council Scholarship to do
post-graduate work on music education at the University of Exeter, England.
Jenny also posseses a Piano Teacher’s
Diploma from the Trinity College
of Music and completed course work in Kodaly Pedagogy (UK) and
Dalcroze Pedagogy (USA).
Jenny continued to pursue her post-graduate studies and in May 2004, she was
conferred the Masters in Education
Degree by Lesley University, Cambridge, USA, specializing in Early
Childhood Development and Music Education.
Jenny has taught at several in-service music education courses for the Ministry
of Education, Malaysia and the Kindergarten Association of Malaysia. She was
also a part-time music lecturer for the
London Montessori College.
She has conducted music classes for the London Montessori Children’s Schools in
Kuala Lumpur.
Jenny has worked with Kiwanis Down
Syndrome Foundation (KDSF), Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.
She conducted several music & movement workshops for KDSF teachers. In addition,
she has taught music at centers for children with special needs such as the
Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation and the National Association for Down Syndrome
of Malaysia.
Jenny co-authored a program called “Music
Circle” together with Dr Lorna Heyge, the President and founder of
Musikgarten U.S.A. Music Circle is a
music & movement program specially designed for nurseries & pre-schools.
Music Circle was launched in Malaysia in 1997 and since then more than 3,500
nurseries, pre-school and kindergarten teachers have been trained to use this
program.
In 1997, she was appointed by Musikgarten USA as the
Certified Musikgarten Teacher Trainer
for South-East-Asia.
Since then she has focused entirely on training music teachers in the
Musikgarten program. To-date she has trained more than 400 music teachers to
use the Musikgarten curriculum.
MUSIKGARTEN is
a music & movement program for children from newborn – 9 years old. It is backed
by over 35 years of practice and academic research in leading universities. It
is a pre-instrumental music program the aim of which is to build a strong
foundation for the child before they start piano or violin lessons or learn
other instruments.
