Description of Musikgarten Workshops

1.  Background & Introduction

Musikgarten offers a complete music education curriculum from birth to 8, firmly grounded in research and fine-tuned by the experiences of Dr. Lorna Lutz Heyge and Mrs. Audrey Sillick, pioneers in the field of early childhood music and movement education.

If you have a love for music and children, you can do this!  Our workshop training sessions are designed to fully prepare the beginner and to challenge the seasoned teacher's skills (9 out of 10 workshop participants have already completed a Diploma in Music such as ABRSM or LTCL, Bachelor's or Master's degree prior to coming to our workshops!)

Musikgarten Malaysia conducts workshops every quarter to show persons like yourself how to become a Musikgarten teacher and how to be successful as an educator and entrepreneur.  Most if not all the workshops are conducted at Hyatt Saujana, Subang or at our head office in Subang Jaya. Our Musikgarten Teacher Trainer is Ms Jenny Ong, the only Certified Musikgarten Teacher Trainer for South-East Asia.

Our schedule for these workshops will be posted in our website and distributed to all who have attended the Music Circle or Musikgarten workshops.  In addition, the workshop dates are also published in the local newspapers such as “The Star”, “New Straits Times” or “The Malay Mail”. Early registration is encouraged, as these workshops fill up rather fast in many locations!

Musikgarten-Trademark Licensed teachers (i.e. those who complete the training and wish to begin advertising and offering Musikgarten classes) hold classes in a wide variety of locations such as Music Schools or their home studios.   We have structured our program to be flexible enough to be used in school settings even though our original intent is to have the program used in parent-child settings.   Preschool and public school teachers can make this work by ensuring that their students take home Musikgarten Family Materials each semester.  These materials, integral to the Musikgarten program, are centered around a CD (or cassette) of superior quality, and supported by age-appropriate materials (a parent songbook with suggested home activities and instrument or manipulative for the child).

Musikgarten is known not only for its superior quality of educational workshops, curricula, and materials, but also for its affordability.   We make our materials affordable for teachers and parents because we know that all children have the birthright to have and to make music.  Our Founders and Authors have ensured this from the onset of the company.

Though 1994 was the introductory year of the Musikgarten trademark, its roots and development go back twenty years prior to that when Founder and President Dr. Lorna Lutz Heyge wrote the first adaptation of the program from a German curriculum she discovered while doing graduate work overseas.   This adaptation was the original Kindermusik, a term which Dr. Heyge trademarked then in 1974.

In 1994, after 20 years of growth and popularity in North America, the Kindermusik name was purchased by investors and changed to form the company Kindermusik International.    Dr. Heyge did not let that deter her life's work, however, and formed the Musikgarten company that year to continue her life's work.

As a result, Musikgarten is about to enter our 15th year of business.   We are proud to offer the only curriculum of its kind to include the range from birth to group keyboard, in age-appropriate classes.   Whether you decide to offer Musikgarten in your home, preschool, music school, or even in a collegiate setting, we will offer as much pedagogical and business assistance as you like.   Your first step is to take a Musikgarten workshop.
